Gibson needs to finally make up their minds to get completely out of the 'sub-$1000 & three-figure guitar game', and stay out forever, despite all of the inevitable consumer wailing and gnashing of teeth that it costs too much money to get the Gibson headstock with the Gibson name on it. Korean-made instruments are in the wrong price point and need to increase in price dramatically. So I guess what we're re-discovering here is: When I compare $1000 Chinese-built guitars to sub-$700 worn finish Gibsons or those $200 pastel-colored 2-single-coil LP-shaped slabs that Gibson released as stocking stuffers a few years ago just before the holidays, it's very tough to argue this claim. The QC is all over the place at epiphone.

Worst case I mess it up badly and have a pro refret job with jumbo stainless. I could have sent it back.But I figure what the neck. I have always wanted to learn to level frets and this forced me to do it. Not sure why as it tested perfectly with the fret rocker before restringing.Īnyway it's been fun. I still can't fret the note there without pinching and bending chokes out immediately. I have had a go at it already and fixed 90 percent of the issue but I still have a nagging spot on the high E at frets 13 and 14. I also used this as an excuse to buy some tools and learn to level frets. They didn't even try to level the frets or slot the nut. I put my fret rocker on it and found 14 out of the 22 frets aren't level.lol. There are dead spots all over the neck where notes totally choke out or have a lot of buzz that cannot be removed by setup. I used this as an excuse to finally buy a nice set of Hosco nut files. The strings are sitting WAAAY over the first fret when pressing down at the 3rd fret.
The nut slots have not been filed down at all. I just bought a new "inspired by Gibson" epiphone es-339 and while it looks and sounds very nice, the nut and fret work are a total disaster.
